Looking to make a raised grid to get more butts on a large. If raising 4.5 - 5 inches above the plate setter and grid, what diameter grid do I need to go down to for it to fit in the egg? Which came first the chicken or the egg? Had to be the egg or we could'nt have cooked the chicken, or the ribs, or the steak, well you the point!
you can double stack the 18" grids? I figures it would need to be smaller Which came first the chicken or the egg? Had to be the egg or we could'nt have cooked the chicken, or the ribs, or the steak, well you the point!
I just measured mine- bolts are 4.5" overall, raised grid is 4" above regular grid.
I use an 18" Weber replacement grid and (3) 3/8" carriage bolts.
this is a sketch for how I built the grid for the Mini. Large is similar, different bolt size and at bottom I sandwiched a washer between nuts. In the mini, the half-inch bolt with a nut does the trick.
this was a 4-butt cook a couple weeks ago:
my raised grid seemed a little big when I used it with the platesetter, but I found if I shoved stuff a litle toward the back it was fine. I didn't wind up taking out the thermometer to make space, but I did remove the spring clip so I could check the thermo when setting up to make sure it wasn't touching.
Think I may cut off those handles, tho they are handy.
your shop drawing doesn't show the requisite washer and double nut at the feet. please revise and resubmit
graphically, the metal as shown in section is solid, where we really should show it with the standard cross hatch. check with McBain, he has a memo about that
THanks for the help Will definately help on a 4-5 butt cook Which came first the chicken or the egg? Had to be the egg or we could'nt have cooked the chicken, or the ribs, or the steak, well you the point!
