DD,

The egg works fine in winter. I use mine all winter here in Colorado. It works just fine below zero.

Once in a while it will freeze shut when it has been used and the gasket gets wet. To unfreeze, put a lit starter cube into the top and wait for it to come up in temperature so it thaws.

The last rule, don't put you tongue on it. You know the rest.
