lid closure not tight
Date: 2007/08/10 09:46 By: Rob Roach Status: Visitor

Hi,

i am a newbie to BGE. have made several fabulous meals, including baking a great loaf of bread. i have noticed that the lid doesn't not uniformly rest on the base. In the back there is about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap, but it rests firmly in front. The gasket is getting burned in the back. I have fiddled with adjusting the metal bands and I can get it to adjust so it is flat all around, but as soon as I retighten and lift the lid the it goes back to this higher in back formation. Is it is problem--and if yes as I suspect--any suggestion on what I am doing wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks!

Rob

Rob Roach,

Recalling from memory, as I can't find the assemnbly instructions, the nuts that hold the hinge assemply to the bottom and lid also need to be loosened just a bit. Half a turn or so. Then press the lid down (or have someone else help) and re-tighten those nuts also. When I adjusted mine, with the hinge nuts loosened, I was able to take it down an additional 1/16th.

Also, the band bolts should be tightened enough that they bend.

Hope this helps,
gdenby

Rob Roach,

In addition to gdenby's comment, I seem to recall that sometimes the hinge unit (bands, springs, etc.) are installed upside down and create a similar condition. You might want to confirm that your's is correct.
