I just had my new XLBGE delivered and it didn't have a fire grate. Does this size not have one? If it should have one, can I cook without it until I can reach the dealer? I'd hate to have to wait until Monday when the dealer opens to use the Egg.

Crawdaddy,
It should have a fire grate. You might be able to use it if you can somehow suspend the lump above the level of air inlet. Try and keep your cooks below 500 deg F so as not to torch the gasket.

Mike in Abita,
Thanks Mike. I was afraid I'd have to rig something up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Crawdaddy,
Go to ACE Hardware or you local Home Depot or Lowes and get the smallest Weber replacement grid you can find... I saw a 8.5" earlier today... should work in a pinch.

Crawdaddy,
I just kind of measured my fire grate. It looks to be about 16" dia. It can't get an accurate measurement as I am TRexing some steaks. I have that LAVA look going on.

P.S. If your wondering about TRex than I suggest going to The Naked Whizes web site. It's a really cool site that has helped me out on numerous occasions.

Good Eats,

8.5" Is half the size of the XL grate.

I'd wait. Or look for a second box.

Crawdaddy,
You do not have to rig anything, unless you want too. It comes with a grate, wait till Monday and if it doesn't show give the mother ship a call.

Crawdaddy,
Suggest you wait until you get the proper grate! I know those who posted are trying to be helpful, but don't go there under any circumstances. The grate comes with all the BGE's as standard equipment, so you shouldn't have to pay any extra for it.........
