Just Plain Mike Lost in Utah,
Have you thought about using a rib rack, filling it up, and then place another rack directly on top
of the first one at a 90 degree angle?....or placing a grid on top of the first rack and then laying
ribs directly on the grid or placing a a second rack on the grid and filling that one too?

Poppasam Lost in Utah, I used a regular grill and four and five inch 3/8 stainless bolts. I used what they
call fender washers as they are larger outside diameter. The Egg folks also make a Two inch fire
ring that allows you to use a taller second grill. Hope this help you out. Some hardwares carry
stainless bolts. We have a fastner store loacl that has all sizes.

Lost in Utah RRP,

When I saw the grill extender it was hooked to the last rail on each side of the bottom grill. Your
picture looks better and gives it a little more height, however if your doing ribs it also looks
like you can only place the ribs between the brackets giving you less room on the bottom grill. Is
there a way to overcome that?

DynaGreaseball RRP,

that is the best. I'm the one with a medium egg and can't obtain a factory extender. I got
my ss bolts, nuts and washers in the mail today, and put my extender together.

The medium isn't big enough to stack butts on, but I'm hoping for two decker ribs with it.
I purchased 3\" stove bolts which leaves a little over 2 inches between the grids. Maybe that will
help with your calculations, Lost in Utah. Good luck.

Lost in Utah,
I knew you were already dead set against it and hey, that's cool with me! Make your own. OTOH
did anyone explain to you how to \"hook\" it and then you can swing the wings up so as to access the
food below? let alone lift both units? Why I'm defending this BGE product I don't REALLY
know - but it is one I do like!

Lost in Utah I looked at the grill extender and I really did not like it. It fastened on to the lower grill and
it did not seem like there was a lot of room on the lower grill with the grill extender on top.

So if I build my own grill extender what size grill would I need for a large Egg and how long do the
bolts need to be.
