Hi folks-
After doing a lot of lurking here and other ceramic forums, I took the plunge and bought 2 Lg BGE. Now the fun begins! Had a few questions though:

1. Accessories- I read good things about the adjustable rig/spider combo available on eggaccessories.com. If I got this, would there be any reason to get the plate setter? How about the 3-tier grill extender?

2. Searing- Did I read somewhere that I could put a Med size grid closer to the firebox for searing? Is this the same size I would need if I utilized the spider instead?

Thanks in advance! I'm sure I'll have more questions...

Randawg,

Get the plate setter

Don't know if a medium grate would fit inside the large firebox. I'd offer to measure the ID of my LG when I get home, but I'm sure someone else will have already answered this by then.
As for getting the steaks closer to the coals, you can:
1 load the coal to the top of the fire ring.
2 remove the fire ring ant place the grate on the fire box rim.
3 remove the grate and put the steaks directly on the *hot* coals.

Randawg,
If you want to sear food look into a cast iron grid to replace the standard grid.It gets very hot and heats evenly.
+1 on the platesetter-great for everything you are not grilling or searing

Randawg,

I would get the platesetter anyway. I don't use it as often but there are still times I use it. A medium grill does fit the spider perfectly. I have both a cast iron medium and the regular (bge) coated grills.

You don't need the 3 tier grill extender if you get the adjustable rig. The 3 tier looks like a bear to clean as it is one piece.

I hope this helps.

Randawg, we got the Woo2, the spider, and the med cast-iron grid. The grid fits much closer to the fire and allows a good sear while keeping the dome temp to less-than-nuclear.
After the sear, we put the meat on the large grid, which is placed on top of the woo2 ring, and roast away. We still have and use the platesetter for many indirect cooks, though. The botom of the woo2 ring has 2 bars which hold a pizza stone, or other heat barrier. The truth is, you need all the toys....

RVH,
Thanks for the info. BTW, I'd like to get all the toys, but I can see my wife's angry stare right now
