Transporting a large egg in a table
Date: 2007/11/06 16:21 By: Boatman Status: Visitor

I'm picking up a demo egg tomorrow and it has a table. Is it OK to transport the egg in the table? The dealer says to lash it down with straps and insert a blanket into the space around the table opening so it doesn't bounce around. What do the eggsperts say? Thanks, & can't wait to start smoking!

Boatman,

I didn't see the end result but I met Dan from Big Green Eggs and Ham and he had removed the inside ceramics and placed rubber wedges in between each piece as he was putting them back in also.

Boatman,
I say listen to the dealer, they "deal" with that kind of thing all the time.. As long as it doesn't bounce around you'll be fine. I would take some styrofoam wedges if I had them to help keep the egg from shifting. The table should have wheels and leaving the egg in, has got to be easier than lifting it. any loose parts, daisey wheel, etc. should be carried in the vehicle with you. You'll do fine! Then get cooking! It is customary for any one who purchases a demo egg in a table to cook for the entire forum. Just kidding! Ask any questions you need. WELCOME!!

Boatman,
I think I would be sure it was not sitting on a paver stone in that table. Seems like one minor bounce on one would do you in.

Boatman,
I've transported my egg in the table on a utility trailer.

Obviously, strapped the table down tightly.

I took the inside ceramics out of the egg and stored them on a rubber mat in the back of my pickup truck.

I lifted the egg and put a pad on under the egg between the egg and the table.

Also took the top off the egg and put it on a pad in the back of my truck as well.

Lots of trouble. But can be done.
