I've been fighting spending the bucks but after many years, finally broke down and bouth a large BGE 2 weeks ago. I've done chicken, steaks, pork loin, hot wings, corn on the cob so far and I can't get rid of my kids. They want more. I'm doing my first butt tomorrow. What a great cooking tool.

Good thing for my friend Larry let me explain, Larry and I met in Costa Rica on a ferry trip to Playa Tambor and became friends over a Barvaria negro. Larry invited my wife and I for dinner he said the meal would be special because he was cooking it on his ceramic barbecue. I thinking "oh ya right," I have had barbecues before and I felt it's the cut and the sauces not some funny looking expensive barbecue, guess what? My wife is not a really a meat eater, just man eater, but she had her steak done in no time, Larry offered her another and she said yes, this was a first! After our dinner I looked everywhere for this barbecue but when I found it in Vancouver, BC I said "I can't justify paying that for a barbecue so I passed. Now I have moved to Calgary and my propane tank stayed in BC I went for a new tank but ended up buying the Large Green Egg, it will be delivered June 29th, and my family and I can't wait. Sometimes you need to treat yourself special now each time I barbecue my food will be EGG-quisive, I will keep you posted. Cheers

My husband and I have been married 15 years as of June 10, 2007. He has been drooling over the BGEs for most of these 15 years but just would not spend the money. He has always used a Weber charcoal grill and a year ago purchased a Weber smoker but he has never really been happy with the results. Well, guess what? Seeing how our anniversay & Father's Day was a week apart this year I purchased a large BGE as an anniversay/Father's day present. It was delivered today - we watched the DVD & then cooked 2 perfect bacon wrapped filets - medium to medium rare - the juiciest & tenderest steak I have ever eaten. I have to say that I have always been skeptical that everything that we have heard over the last 15 years was all at lot of hype. I am thrilled that we finally own a BGE and can't wait until tomorrow to eat again!

My first BGE was delivered Thursday. I cooked alder planked salmon stuffed with blue cheese and walnuts. I have made this dish before on a charcoal grill. There is nothing that compares to the flavor of it cooked on the BGE! except maybe the next dish I will make, smoked pork roast! What an exceptional product!

I just used my egg for the first time last night. My wife couldn't believe the hamburgers (thought I'd start small) that I came in with. Not only were they well done,as she likes, but they were still plump, fat, and juicy. And, it was so easy!.Steaks tonight. I'm starting to think that after years of frustration with gas, magic ceramic chunks, lava rocks, regular charcoal grills etc., that I just might be able to grill GOOD food.

My wife gave me a large BGE for our anniversary. I cooked steaks the first night and ribs the next...unbelievable! My top of the line Weber is going to sit for a while (I never thought I would say that). Everything you hear about BGE is true. It's amazing.

Took delivery of my BGE on Tuesday and fired it up last night to cook steaks for me and my dad. They were, without a doubt, the best steaks we had eaten in years. I left the charcoal going, added a little, and stuck a Boston Butt on to smoke for dinner guests tonight.
If the Butt turns out anywhere near the way the steaks did, I am in a no lose position. BGE is a great product.

Just bought my BGE yesterday and cooked on it tonight for the first time. I cooked the BEST marinated salmon I've ever tasted! It was so moist and flavorful. I can't wait to try lots of other meats. We even did frozen (Pillsbury) hard rolls on it. I did our whole meal, the bread, zuchinni and salmon. Awesome. I was a little concerned that it might be hard to keep it at a certain temperature but it was easy. My 16 yr. old son was even using it! So glad we bought one!

We love our BGE. I finally gave up a 50-year old charcoal Hasty-Bake, and briefly considered the convenience of a gas grill, but the flavor just isn't there, so why would anybody use one? I'm so glad I found the Egg! Such great flavor, so easy to use, so sparing on fuel, so versatile. From dynamite low-smoked brisket and pork shoulder, to awesome steaks, to bacon-wrapped scallops, to homemade jerky w/o preservatives, our BGE is the real deal! Don't worry about the cost--just get yours! As everybody else is saying in these posts, you'll never look back. How many times in life do you find the One True Way about anything? This is it!

I have to brag for a second. I found an awesome deal at a local thrift shop! Someone had donated a brand new egg (small size) and I found it 4 hours after donation! $60 for a brand new egg with nest and 20lb bag of green egg charcole. All original hard ware was included, even DVD and manual!
I have always wanted one of these, but the prices were not in my range. This one was and for two people, it is perfect! We cooked two of matt's onions, two nice sized pork chops and 8 honey bbq chicken fingers. Cooked everything about 300 for about 40 minutes. I have never tasted such flavor from any grill I ever cooked on. My wife and I laughed when I said "This thing is awesome! It can turn cheap meat into 5 star taste!" We can't wait to toss a few filets on tomorrow night! We're hooked! If your cookouts are missing something, GET ONE OF THESE NOW!!!! Thanks BGE!

Grilled & smoked on regular pits for years. Had a combo propane/charcoal pit and had problems maintaining temperatures, disliked having to babysit the fire. Bought an electric smoker, not enough smoke. Bought an alternate smoke producer for the electric smoker but the flavor was just not the same as coals and wood. Found the BGE web site via "www.dogpile.com". Been reading about them but was reluctant because of the price. Visited Perdido Key, Fla. on a fishing trip and noticed that nearly EVERY boat had a BGE. One year later, I bought the large one and it is everything I expected. The lifetime warranty sold me. Great BBQ flavor, smoke flavor, easy to maintain the temperature and easy to remove ashes.

My wife and I got our BGE last Summer and what a find!! At the time, I had five other grills of various sizes and styles--grill junky... But, when I used the BGE for the first time, I put the others away. I smoked a 14 lb brisket in about 8 hours at 200 degrees (was in a bit of a hurry and thought it would be a little tough because I like to smoke at 185 degrees. Boy, was I wrong). The meat was so tender I almost had to scoop it up with a spoon to pick it up! I will never need any other smoker/grill. If I do, it'll be another BGE--just a different size!

I was going to buy a pit cooker and I did not want a 6.5 foot long cooker on my patio. I heard about the Big Green Egg as being the best grill/smoker out there. I heard that it will keep your meat moist when cooking and the flavor is incredible.
I was skeptical but was reassured that the BGE is awesome! I took the plunge and I have found that the BGE is the absolute best for grilling/smoking! The flavor and moisture is unbelievable! I am very satisfied and highly recommend!

I just purchased my large BGE today at a local home show. I tried food prepared in it and loved it. Logic told me that with all that ceramic the unit must be efficient at keeping heat in which makes me happy as I will no longer have to go without BBQ during our Canadian winter. One question though. I am a duck hunter and have some wild duck breasts in the freezer. Wild duck is difficult to cook without becoming very dry. Are there any waterfowlers who might have some tips for cooking duck breast in the BGE?

I received a medium Greenegg for Christmas from my Daughter. She knew I had read about this cooker/smoker/grill and that I wanted one but did not want to pay the price for this grill. I have already cooked a steak, pork tenderlion, a whole chicken and salmon on a cedar plank. The flavor and moisture is amazing. My wife and I are now both diehard eggheads and hope to attend the eggfest in Atlanta in October. I had five smokers/grill's before the green egg. My wife and I just gave away our fairly new Weber Grill to our new neighbor that had a habachi grill and we are giving our new four burner stainless steel grill to a friend tommorrow. Long story short. The greenegg meets our grilling/BBQ needs. If you are not convinced my email is EddieM @sc.rr.com

I recieved my Large Big Green Egg as a Christmas gift this past year. I work at a store that specializes in Custom Outdoor Kitchens, had my pick of grills and still chose the Big Green Egg for my own home.
For anyone wondering if there really is a difference in food with the Big Green Egg, read on...
I have not eaten anything but poultry or seafood for over 7 years. I still grilled beef, lamb and pork for other members of my family and friends through the years. I never had any cravings whatsoever. Once I started cooking with my Egg, the meat was looking and smelling intriguing. Long story short after much soul searching and inner pondering I grillied a lovely boneless pork chop on my Egg this past Sunday and boy was it yummy!!! I still will continue to eat mainly fish and poultry, but the Egg drove me to enjoy meat again. That is how fantastic the Big Green Egg is. Flavors and textures are superior to ANY grill on the market! I am proud to call myself an "Egghead"! Thank You Big Green Egg. Renee Attili of Grill It Yourself

Dear dirty12@surewest.net,
No need to marinate!!! Simply apply a rub 30 minutes prior to cooking. If you dont have a recipe for a good rub I have a great, simple, easy recipe with outstanding results.
After the rub is applied, place shoulder/butt on a rack w/drip pan, set the BGE to 200-225 degree's, cook for 6-8 hours, add wood chips if you want early in the cooking process. Your diners will be amazed. Any questions just email me @ george.mcelroy@us.army.mil

I work in a store that specializes in custom outdoor kitchens. I had my pick of grills from inexpensive $300.00 dollar grills to grills costing more than $10,000.00, but the only choice for my own personal grill was the Big Green Egg!! The ceramic construction will never rust in the hot humid climate of SW Florida, and the flavor of the Egg is second to none. My husband suprised me with my Large Egg this Christmas, and all the meals that I have cooked are the best I ever have done. My husband use to make fun of my dry flavorless chicken but last night he didn't use any gravy or sauce and went through 3 napkins. No dry chicken here!!! I have had my large green egg for 2 weeks and I think it is awesome. MY one and only complaint is that the "cookbook" that comes with a new egg needs to be a glossy professional cookbook instaed of one that looks like it was made on a copy machine. I plane on keeping the egg forever and I would like a book to match.

Just went through my first summer with a BGE (small). This year, August was especially hot here in south Texas, and I spent many evenings cooking on my BGE. In addition to providing some of the best food we've ever had, using my Egg really helped to keep the temperature down in the house. I got my Egg in March, using it an average of twice a week, and have just finished my third (20 lb.) bag of charcoal.
What a product! Great tasting food and so economical (and easy) to operate!

Have had my egg for about a year now. I love it I love it I love it! I have recently been throwing it in the truck and bringing it to work to cook for co-workers. I am a shift worker, so 12 hour nights are PERFECT for Eggin! Have not had a bad review yet! Recently did a Prime rib, and even though it was slightly overdone, the smoked flavor earned it A+! Tomorrow, I am doing 2 racks of baby backs. The guys can't wait! Anyway, if anybody knows of any more recipe sites or such, shoot me an e-mail. Much appreciated in advance, and Keep On Eggin!

Got my egg just a month ago, have used a Weber for 35 years. I really wish I had done this sooner. Easy to light, easy to control temps and definitely the moistest meats I have ever grilled, seared or smoked - and all in 1 unit. Would highly recommend to all.

I bought my Green Egg six years ago, and never regreted it for one minute. It is a fantastic way to cook. I took up doing pork shoulder, and large briskets. Slow cooking is a breeze, because the egg can sustain low and slow temperatures, making for great barbequed pulled pork and brisket.

First, I wish everyone on this message board a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Holiday. I have had my BGE for 5 plus years. I can't recall ever being disappointed with anything I have asked it to do. I will admit that I have made a few mistakes in preparation of somethings to be cooked on my BGE. To the entry before me, If you would search this message board, you will find many entries regarding results and quality of food cooked on the BGE. I don't why you would go on this site and post a message about how well your weber dinosaur grill is. But we all need a space to complain about things that make us unhappy. I love my BGE over any tin can grill on the market today. Keep it Green & Grilling. All the best

Not one comment here is about how the food comes out. It's not a good investment, buy a Weber the flavor of the food is much better and its much easier to cook on. A weber gives your food a very flavorful taste and is extremely juicy. I bought both and the weber was so much easier in addition I usually don't like porkchops but the weber chops were moist and tender, and only took 8 minutes. See the recipe's.

I have only owned my large BGE for about four months and it was by far the best purchase I have EVER made. My wife and I saw a display of eggs at the local fair..I had seen one once before but barely took a look after seeing the price tag..I said to myself 400 something dollars for a charcoal grill..you've got to be kidding. At the fair however I did take a good look.. I realized this thing was as solid as a tank..and would probably last forever...I could not stop thinking about the thing when we left the fair..My wife knew I was drueling over the thing and decided to buy me a large one a week later for our anniversary. My husband heard about the BGE from a dear friend and researched it and just had to have one. His friend got him one as he was so excited about his. My husband got it 2 days ago and has been like a 12 year old on Christmas! He made awesome steaks last night and tonight was heavenly chicken thighs and asparagus tonight! Our kids said it was they were best meals he had ever made(and he was a great griller with a weber)! I have to admit to being reduced to a kid at Christmas too, as I can't wait to bake on it and make pizza's. Never heard of the BGE before....will never forget it now. Truly a must have for any cook!!

After reading about the BGE we decided to replace our aging grill and smoker with this one unique product. We've never been so happy with our results! We've cooked ribs, chicken, steak, thick pork chops, butt roast and even pizza with amazing results.
With the old grill we'd wait for nearly an hour for steaks. With the BGE - it was 18 minutes from lighting to steaks on the table - - and they were by far the most tender steaks we'd ever had (and I like mine medium well - so that's quite a testimonial).
We bought a large even though there are just two of us because we enjoy having neighbors over. We just bought our second BGE as a gift - the new owners were delighted!
Thanks for a wonderful product!!

We have had a Big orange Green Egg since 1973, have used it every year since and love it. One Easter I decided to cook cornish hens instead of a turkey. I wanted to do it on the Komado (as it was known then) instead of in the kitchen oven. My husband discouraged the idea because he didn't think smoked cornish hens was an appropriate Easter dinner. I promised not to use any hickory chips. I would just bake them. Needless to say, they were perfectly tender and had a smoked flavor because of years of prior smoking. They were a hit!

I bought a large green egg over a year ago after hearing of the cooking results from a business associate from St Louis. I have had two friends buy one since. Both think they are great. The only problem with cooking on the egg is that you dont get to eat much of what you cook. Neighbors, friends and relatives eat more of the food than I do. Ham, pork loins, turkey steak and chicken are my favorites but everything I have cooked is great. My grandchildren are always wanting to know when I am going to cook steak. My old gas grill gets used when we have a church cookout and I need to cook 100 hamburgers in a short time. Otherwise it makes a good storage cabinet for the Green Egg accessories. Everyone who enjoys cooking out should buy a Big Green Egg. Thanks for a great product

We purchased our medium BGE in May, 2006. We have instantly fallen in love with it! We have made everything from hamburgers, ribs, pulled pork, roast beef, chicken (both whole and parts), pizza to salmon. We have even baked a cake on it! We found a special recipe called "Dream Cake." It's a dense, decadent cake that we will also recognize as one that should be cooked on the BGE.
All the accessories we've tried are quality made and work really well. We tried another wood charcoal but soon realized how much better the BGE charcoal is.
This is the best purchase of any home product/appliance we've ever made! As a result, it is rare that we go out to eat any more.

I was looking for a gas grill when a friend that had a BGE started telling me about what a great grill it was. I wanted to get a little more adventurous with my grilling. I didn't like the idea of having to baby sit the grill and feed it charcoal so I thought gas was the way to go. I checked out what others had to say about the BGE and thought I would give it a try. I'm convinced it's worth the money and probably the last grill I'll ever own. I've done chicken, pork loin, steaks, and for the 4th I grilled some killer ribs. I've made a few rookie mistakes but with a little pratice I'm getting moist juicy, great tasting food ... much better than I could have done with gas. It also helps having a forum where you can get tips and recipes.

I purchased an XL BGE over the weekend (JULY 1, 2006). I have been researchng the BGE for the last 2 months. I was sold on it by the testimonies of other EGGHEADS. I had to CONvince my wife it was worth the cost, and she finally agreed after I told her I'd be willing to cook with it 3 or 4 times a week. I found a local BGE dealer only 3 miles from my home. I went there and the salesman was cooking some brisket on a BGE. After tasting this juicy, tasty, tender meat, my only question was large or extra large. I decided on the XL because I have 3 kids and sometimes we have guest over. I used it today to grill some frozen hamburger patties, hot dogs, and Italian sausage. I burned the first batch, (rookie mistake) but I got it right the second time. The frozen burgers were juicy. What else can I say? I love the BIG GREEN EGG!!! I am now offically an EGGHEAD!!!!

I cannot wait to get back to Atlanta so I can get hooked on this amazing piece of cookery. Is there an official BGE items, such as a hat or apron I could get him for a gift? Also, I hope I could get him a membership in the National BGE Society, if there is one. I have a feeling we are going to become a close BGE family.

I am 54 years old. From as far as I can remember my mother always cooked on one of these cookers. I grew up in So California, and she cooked outdoors all year round. We were the only family to have one and all my friends wanted to eat at our house. Now that I have discovered you, I want to purchase one for myself. Thank you.

I cannot decide between a "medium" and a "large"--there are 3 of us at home regularly; however, it is conceivable that I might cook a 12-13 lb turkey for holidays. I don't want to make a mistake, but the "large" looks like such a monster! What do you experienced folks think?

My close friend was a huge Weber enthusiast and used only coal and wood for cooking. He converted me from lp gas cooking to coal cooking about three years ago. When the time came for me to purchase a new grill, I wanted a Weber Ranch Kettle. My wife heard about the BGE and made it my Christmas gift (along with a 9 rib beef roast). Needless to say, Christmas dinner was prepared on the BGE. And what a great dinned it was!
I advocate the BGE, now my father-in-law owns one and my "Weber" buddy owns one.

I am an employee at the Finest Hearth and Home in Ellsworth, Maine. We sell the Big Green Egg. I had a gas grill that needed replacing and I decided to go with the Large Big Green Egg over the $1000 gas grill that we carry. I was so glad I did. I am a huge fan of Beer Can Chicken on the gas grills, however the first time I smoked a chicken on the Egg...wow there truly is no comparison. I have cooked steaks, rib eyes, briskets so far and every time it was moist and delicious. Turkey will be my next "challenge". Unfortunately for my store when people come in and ask what the best grill we have is, instead of showing them a $1500- $4000 gas grill I show them a Big Green Egg. This is TRUELY a phenomenal product!!

I have had my BGE for well over 30 years. At that time they were only available from Japan. An Air Force relative brought it back with him. I think it was only $50. I modified it to take a spit and have had to replace the 'guts' a couple of times but it is still going strong.

After looking at these for 5 years, I finally broke down and bought the large Egg last Friday. On Saturday, my first attempt was to grill 4 pounds of hot wings. These were incredible and I was able to cook all of them at once. It was unanimous that these were the best we all had ever had. Sunday I cooked about 20 burgers and these also had the best smoke flavor and were juicy, not dried out. I am sold on this and will probably never go back to a gas grill.

I'd been on the fence for almost 2 years over buying a BGE, finally attended Eggfest in Waldorf, bought a demo unit and want to rave about the first pair of steaks cooked...... Despite windy, rainy conditions, mediocre cuts and zero BGE experience on my part (haven't used charcoal since my old hibachi rusted out almost 2 decades ago) I got a "These are the best steaks you've ever cooked" out of my wife. This being contrasted to the usual "Don't feel bad honey, they really are OK" that I usually get. Big smokey fun with delicious results - only regret is not buying one when I first considered it!

I bought the BGE for my husband last year for Father's Day, and we literally do not cook in our house anymore. I have never cooked on the BGE myself, but when my husband was deployed to Kuwait in April 2006, I decided I could not wait 6 months for him to come home to enjoy Pulled Pork (my favorite on the BGE) so I gathered up all the ingredients to brine, and rub and currently making my 1st pulled pork, so far it is so simple, I can't believe I thought my husband was working hard when he controlled the BBQ. He really had me fooled into thinking he worked so hard to prepare ribs and such. So Ladies out there, don't be afraid to learn how to grill, smoke, bake, just plain cook on the BGE, let's give our menfolk a run for their money

Before purchasing a BGE, I read thru everyone's comments and entries in the Forum. Based on those comments, I opted to purchase a small Egg, since the majority of my cooking was going to be for my husband and myself. I then searched for several months for a used Egg - Not with the intent of purchasing one, but to determine whether the product was a "keeper". My lack of success in finding a used Egg told me this was a product worth having, since people were buying them and - more importantly - keeping them.
My Egg was delivered March 17th in the PM. I checked the Egg to make sure there were no cracks or product defects. I then viewed the entire DVD that came with the Egg. Don't get me wrong - I was excited as heck, but I was also determined to "get it right" the first time.
After viewing the DVD (twice), I loaded charcoal into the Egg, then lit it.
For my first outing with the Egg, I chose something very simple - Sausage links and two large onions. None of us who ate that sausage cried - Our eyes were rolled too far back into our heads for that.
The next day I sold my 200-pound, cast-iron, two-chamber charcoal hog and threw in my small gas grill.
What a wonderful product! I was so impressed with the ease of use I cooked steaks (8 in all) on Saturday and several chicken on Sunday (along with side vegetables). In all, the Egg was in use for a total of almost 8 hours over those three days, only consumed 3 pounds of charcoal, and produced minimal ash.
In using the small Egg, I found one small problem - The small Egg is too small for my cooking style. Yes, the majority of my cooking is for two people, but when I cook dinner during the week, I like to make enough for have something for lunch for the next day. Also, I cook for 3 or 4 (or more) people on weekends.
My husband already knows he will be getting me an Egg for my birthday - I just need to decide whether to get a Large or XL.
Repeating myself - What a wonderful product!

I grew up around the originals as a kid. Both of my grandfathers were WWII pilots so they both had them as did my dad. In talking to my dad recently he said that they were $7-8 each back then and when they went to $10 he swore he would never buy another.
I went to visit my remaining grandfather last month and it was the first time I have ever cooded on one. Those t-bones were awesome. Ironically there was an add in this weekend's paper for a medium BGE at 30% of the retail. Sadly, we are under a fire ban and I can't even try it out!!

Bought our first BGE. Grilled steaks per the booklet in the packaging. Absolutely perfect!!! The juiciest steak I have ever had. It had a better flavor and juicier than the $35 a plate or higher steak houses. Jut pulled off a pork roast. 6 lbs done in 21/2 hours and tastes awesome!!!

I am a recent owner of the Large Green Egg. I have not used my Weber Gas Grill since. I have done steaks, Chicken, Pork Loins, Pork Tenderloins, and Hamburgers. The results have been excellent every time. I believe you can get the temperature of the green egg up to 700 deg. faster than a gas grill for cooking steaks. Best steaks ever. I heard and looked at the BIG GREEN EGGS for several years and I am truly disappointed that I did not buy one sooner. Don't wait any longer go buy one and you will be glad you did.

I found the Big Green Egg through on link on www.dizzypigbbq.com and I was intrigued. My parents saw the eggs at a local store in Hamilton, ON, Canada and told me. I bought it just a little over 3 weeks ago and I'm hooked. I can't believe how much better barbequed meat tastes when grilled in the Big Green Egg. My parents agree...they're buying one too. I've tried several of the recipes/cooking techniques found on the dizzy pig site. The egg coupled with dizzy pig dry rubs have improved my grilling to a level that my dinner guests can attest to. Thanks so much! I'm a true believer.

For months now I've been debating wether or not to repair my Katrina flood damaged Weber gas grill or buy a new grill. The BGE caught my attention, it was obvious to me that the BGE was a quality product, but it was more expensive then repairing my Weber gas grill. Last Monday I finally decided to spend the extra money and I bought a large BGE. I'm extreemely happy with my decission. So far I've smoked a chicken, grilled ribeyes, pork chop and burgers. The food cooked on the BGE was so much tastier and jucier then anything I've ever cooked on my Weber grill. I'm going to stick my Weber grill out on the curb with the rest of the hurricane debris. The Big Green Egg is awesome!
